Filing Period

Hours to file application are Wednesday January 18, 2023, thru Thursday February 16, 2023, 8am till 12 noon and Friday February 17, 2023, from 8am until 5pm.

Applications for a Place on the Ballot are found at the following website: https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/pol-sub/2-21f.pdf

The last day to file an Application for a Place on the Ballot will be Friday, February 17, 2023, at 5pm.

Candidate Positions

  • Mayor Pro-Tem/ Alderman Michael John was elected as Alderman in 2007 and re-elected in 2011, 2015 and 2019 his term expires 2023.
  • Alderman Wade Goates was elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2015 and 2019 his term expires 2023.
  • Alderman Anne Stark was elected in 2018 to finish a 1-year term and was re-elected in 2019. Her term expires in 2023.

Qualifications for Office

Type A City (Local Gov’t Code, Section 22.032)

  • Mayor

    Residence — 1 year in state prior to the filing

    deadline; 1 year in city prior to election day

    Age — 18

    Must be a registered voter in territory elected from by the filing deadline*

  • Alderman At-Large

    Residence — 1 year in state prior to filing deadline; 6 months in the city (or ward) prior to filing deadline (Texas Elec. Code, Section 141.001(a); Brown v. Patterson, 609 SW 2nd 287)

    Age — 18

    Must be a registered voter in territory elected from by the filing deadline*

2023 Election Schedule

  • January 1, 2023 – First day to apply for a ballot by mail.

  • January 18, 2023 – First day to file for a place on the General Election ballot.

  • February 17, 2023, at 5pm – Last day to file for a place on the General Election ballot.
  • February 17, 2023 – Last day to Order General Election of Election of a Measure May 6, 2023. 

  • April 24, 2023 – First day of early voting.

  • April 25, 2023 – Last day to apply for a ballot by mail.

  • May 2, 2023 – Last Day of Early Voting by Personal Appearance

  • May 6, 2023 – Election Day
