Filing Period

Hours to file application are Wednesday January 15, 2025, thru Thursday February 13, 2025, 8am till 12 noon and Friday February 14, 2025, from 8am until 5pm.

Applications for a Place on the Ballot are found at the following website: https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/pol-sub/2-21f.pdf

The last day to file an Application for a Place on the Ballot will be Friday, February 14, 2025, at 5pm.

Qualifications for Office

Type A City (Local Gov’t Code, Section 22.032)

  • Mayor

    Residence — 1 year in state prior to the filing

    deadline; 1 year in city prior to election day

    Age — 18

    Must be a registered voter in territory elected from by the filing deadline*

  • Alderman At-Large

    Residence — 1 year in state prior to filing deadline; 6 months in the city (or ward) prior to filing deadline (Texas Elec. Code, Section 141.001(a); Brown v. Patterson, 609 SW 2nd 287)

    Age — 18

    Must be a registered voter in territory elected from by the filing deadline.

 

Important 2025 Election Dates

  • January 1, 2025 – First day to apply for a ballot by mail.

  • January 15, 2025 – First day to file for a place on the General Election ballot.

  • February 14, 2025, at 5pm – Last day to file for a place on the General Election ballot.

  • February 14, 2025 – Last day to Order General Election of Election of a Measure May 3, 2025.

  •  April 22, 2025 – First day of early voting.

  • April 22, 2025 – Last day to apply for a ballot by mail.

  • April 29, 2025 – Last day of early voting by Personal Appearance.

  • May 3, 2025 – Election Day.
